Since the early '70's, people have been fascinated by the idea of "smart homes." In fact, the smart home has a prevalent history in science fiction, including cartoons such as the Jetsons. But science fiction is only fiction, until it becomes science fact. Largely, smart home technology, or domotics, has been marketed as a luxury, used as a means for controlling and managing the environment of larger homes and mansions. While originally expensive, this technology has become fairly commonplace and affordable. While it certainly helps to shape the home into a more convenient living space, domotics is not merely capable of offering convenience. For people with disabilities, it can grant access to the home in ways that were previously impossible.
